We jump on the 16:46 regional city express to Wien (Vienna). At the border of Austria we pick up a new conductor who rechecks all our tickets, other than that we are just zipping through flat countryside. We are off by 18:00, pick up our tickets to Cesky Krumlov, Czech Republic, for Thursday, find the Tram (built and designed by Porsche!) to the stop for our boardinghouse. We are located upstairs in a flat above one of the busiest main streets, Marianhilfe Strasse, between the WestBahnhof and the old town area (St. Stephens Cathedral, Hofburg Palace). At first it is hard to find the entrance to the boardinghouse and we walk past the non-descript doorway twice before seeing it. Up four flights of stairs and there are three guest rooms. We have the "pink" room, and this time it is an elegant pink, not at all the puke pink of the earlier room. Very spacious, quiet and private. Our windows open to the tree tops, the street pulses below. After settling in we get out and explore, eventually ending up behind the museum quarter for dinner at a little café on a street lined with cafés.
So, here we are in Vienna, one of the grand old cities of Europe.
