Nothing was open; no coffee, no food, but we were fed on our first flight with Lufthansa, heading to Munich.
The Munich airport is the most flyer friendly airport, above any I have ever been in during the past 40 years. Great seating, room to relax, sleeping chairs and rows without armrests, free wifi areas, complementary coffee, cappuchino, hot cocoa or whatever, free newspapers in many languages, plugs for charging iPads, laptops and so on... Very nice place to spend time.
On the flight to Toronto we sat next to a Croatian woman who showed us photos of her house on an island near Split... Guess where we may go next summer?
Well, we went through US customs and border control in Toronto, Canada.
So, as the trip is over and done, and out of six weeks we had three days with no rain, though in fairness many of the rainy days also had some sunny, or at least dry and overcast parts. This was a good experience.
We found that SwissAir was a great airline, with wonderful food, excellent service and lots of room. They rank above British Airways. Lufthansa was good, about on par with AeroMexico, and the Air Canada overseas flight was great, but the Air Canada domestic flight sucked (except for a better aircraft, cleaner, more room, no rattles) so it barely ranked above US Airways.
The highlight of the trip to Germany was Krakow, Poland! Who knew? But the trip was great overall, and I would go back to any of the places.
