We got home safe after about 24 hours via metro, plane and rental car. Our neighborhood is fine, but the entire city is a mess.
The two real finds this trip to Greece were first, Koufonissi especially the food and beach at Kato Koufonissi.
And second, Milos. Even as we left I looked over and saw a cool sliver of a beach with rock arches to swim through, a beach we totally missed on our tour.
It is called Papafragas. Check it out. I will if we return.
Hydra remains one of the best little islands we have been to, ever. I hope they can keep the cars away.
Greece Vs. Croatia
First, the numbers:
We have been on mainland Greece, plus nine islands, all in the Cyclades group, in addition to Hydra (twice) and Corfu. A total of 35 days over two years.
We have been on mainland Croatia, plus seven islands up and down the coast. A total of 37 days over two years.
Food - Croatia wins, hands down.
Wine - Croatia is more consistent.
Authentic “undiscovered island” experience – Croatia.
Ocean water quality - both great, however Croatia seemed so clear all the way down, even in the deepest waters.
Greece seemed more hazy, or smoggy over all.
So Croatia wins on the beach experiences overall.
Hydra, however, has a certain charm like no other place. And Santorini is a classic “must see” destination.
Mainland areas and cities – Croatia, with the exception of Meteora in Greece. But anywhere in Croatia over Athens and so on.
Costs are similar in both countries, but overall in Croatia you get (in my opinion) better quality for less, especially when you factor in hotels in places like Mykonos.
Croatia has the heavy Italian influence without the Italian corruption.
Flushing TP in the toilet - Greece loses here.
I am glad we spent more time in Greece. But I think this is it.
I will return a third and hopefully a fourth time to Croatia however.
