The Malta Airport is a dream.
You know how you leave yourself a lot of time to get to, and through, the airport?
At the Malta airport we were through security, boarding passes in hand, eating breakfast just 45 minutes after we boarded the bus to go there!
I checked in online but could not print the boarding passes.
The X4, X5 and x& bus all go to the airport, about a twenty or thirty minute trip.
Air Malta has a long counter, lots of agents. There was a long line at the luggage check in section.
We walked right up to the Air Malta agent at the Online Check In desk, who just printed our boarding passes and handed them to me.
We walked over to, and through security in less than five minutes and that was it.
And, to top it off, this is one of the most comfortable airports ever to wait in.
Up on top there is a great coffee shop, with inside seating looking down on the lines of people (fun!) or you can actually go outside to a nicely controlled, landscaped patio area and watch the planes. There is free WiFi throughout.
There are about five cafes to choose from.
The airport only has about ten gates, and they are right next to each other, so the furthest gate is a whole three minute walk away.
We walked out on the runway and up into the jet.
s we took off, we flew right over Rabat, and I could see the highest point out on the Dingli cliffs. Then we headed north over Mehila beach, and finally Gozo.
I am two of three on good seats for this trip. I usually request a window seat for me, aisle for Gail, and we hope no one shows up to take the middle seat. It worked today! The other flight was our trip to Rome.
We'll see how we do heading home.
This air Malta flight is comfortable, with wide leather seats and good leg room.
It is an Airbus, pretty new plane, but no monitors in the seat backs, just one every five rows or so.
In the time it took to type from the words "I am two of three..." we were already over Italy.
I was surprised, for a flight lasting just an hour and a half, that we were served a little ham and cheese sandwich and a bottle of water. Of course there were food and drinks available as well.
Well, we had just had breakfast in the airport, so we stashed the sandwiches, figuring that we would have them in a couple hours with a glass of wine.
As for the water, well, we will need the bottles soon, as you will find out.
We landed in Venice right on time.
