We said our goodbyes to Frau Tieffenbacher, promising to return. Ralph and Angelika took us into Lienz for one last küchen and coffee (I had a fantastic truffle torte). Then we caught our first of three trains heading to Munich.
It was fun messing around in first class, reading the magazines and reclining the seats. Thanks again, Agnes!
We walked up to the dining car and sat at the table for a half hour, drinking wine and looking at the beautiful Austrian mountain villages slide by.
It was raining when we crossed into Germany, but it stopped by the time we reached Munich. Petra was walking up the platform as we got off, and after hugs we headed down to the U-Bahn to head to her apartment.
Petra and Lorenz live out by the Technical University, in Garching, a really nice, quiet, more modern neighborhood of three story apartments. They are near the Isar River, which has walking paths along it. We have been to Munich two or three times now, but only the old city center. This is a whole new area for us, and we are surprised just how quiet and relaxed it is.
Their top floor apartment has a deck that wraps around it, and the apartment itself is sleek and modern, tastefully done like something from a magazine.
While we drank a beer, Lorenz made us caprese salads and Petra put together a great salmon pasta with cream sauce.
It started to rain again. I got the nods about 22:00 so we set up the bed and crashed. Tomorrow we hope to explore around the Tegernsee.
