... Like Disneyland, But Better.
Our son Jeff wanted to go wine tasting for his birthday, so he and his wife flew up from Los Angeles for a long weekend. Where to take him for good wine, a fun day, and guaranteed great memories? I didn't even have to think about that one; one quick email to David and Kathy Roth and we were set for a beautiful California afternoon of wine tasting at Dakaro. Amber and her husband Andrew came up from San Francisco to join us, and we were at the winery by 12:30. The wine and conversation flowed freely, we picnicked for hours, sampling each of the wines with food, and slept in the warm winter sun. When we had enough to drink, we attempted to throw horseshoes; more like hide and seek as we chased the ones thrown into the bushes. Somehow, with the score tied zero - zero - zero after thirty minutes of intense competition, two horseshoes in a row mistakenly clanked onto the pole for a perfect double ringer. But, this was not the only surprising score of the day (see the tasting note below). After a full afternoon, we bought a couple cases of various wines to take back to LA and San Francisco, and for the birthday dinner of BBQ ribs. One tasting note from today: The Au Contraire Viognier white dessert wine with Rogue Creamery blue cheese was more surprising than the double ringer. SCORE! |
