It can be the most beautiful meal.
When I have the time, I like to try to replicate, or improve upon, the single most memorable meal I have ever had.

We were in Castlerotto (also known as Kastleruth), a small village in the Italian Dolomites, on the border with Austria. The area has switched countries so many times that every person, every sign, everything is bilingual, Italian/German.
After a day of hiking in the mountains, we returned to our hotel, the Cavallino D'Oro, for dinner. I had wild boar ravioli, and was surprised when it arrived garnished with edible wild flowers from the surrounding mountains. Read about it here.
What made it so memorable for me was the sheer beauty of the meal. Sure, it tasted great, but for the first time I saw how truly beautiful a meal, even a simple dish, can be.
*Hand made Venison Sausage Ravioli in a Vodka Aurora Sauce, with shaved parmesan - reggiano, fresh rosemary flowers (blue), nasturtium and fresh picked basil.
