It was a great success!
We tried many different wines, and we were all surprised how many white wines were present.
We were up well past midnight, had some people stay overnight, and enjoyed each pairing.
You can see the ten combinations in the photos below.
Three notes of clarification:
There were two dessert selections. One was a French and an Italian blue cheese, with V. Sattui Late Harvest Riesling, and the other was the non-sweet Starcluster wine with chocolate biscotti and cookies.
I did not get a photo of Gail's pairing. It was the 2013 Gaeiano D'Aquino Pinot Grigio, from Della Venezie, Italy, paired with deviled eggs. It was an unlikely, but big, hit!
Finally, the Albireo Barbera pairing was an eight step process. The exact order was:
First, sip the 2012 Barbera, then eat the smoked herring. Third, eat the white cheddar, then go back to the herring. Step five was a French olive, followed by another swig of the Barbera. Then step seven was another olive, followed by a final taste of the Barbera. It was pretty complex (That is what you think about in the vineyard all day...) but we were all surprised at how the tastes changed after every step.
The rest of the selections are below, and we were surprised how each stood alone.
You can see the bottles in the photo above, if you would like to re-create any of the parings.
