Isn't it funny how every dog has their own personality? Harley had a huge personality for such a small dog. Everybody liked him, and he was never challenged for the "alpha dog" spot.
Harley was all that and more. We got him six years ago, when he was going to be killed after a life of breeding. We brought him home, and he became part of the family. We figure he was about ten years old, but we never really knew.
About a year ago we noticed he was deaf. His eyesight started to go, then his back legs didn't work all the time. He used to run up and down the stairs chasing balls, endless energy, but now he stumbled down the curb, fell down the stairs and could not get up over the threshold into the house. He could not remember how to get home, and started sleeping all the time, only waking to pee in the house, which he never did before. Most of his teeth were gone by now, so he could hardly eat.
So, we talked and waited, but today was the day.
22 May, 2014.
We'll miss him. He was a great little feller.
